APTwater’s HiPOx® Municipal systems are a key enabling technology in the growing $5 billion per year market for water reuse. While many recent water treatment technologies have recently emerged, they fail to adequately address the key unresolved issues of public safety and environmental health. New biological treatment techniques and processes such as membrane bioreactor (MBR) and integrated fixed-film activated sludge (IFFAS) help make wastewater recovery and treatment more practical, but they fail to remove Endocrine Disrupting Compounds (EDCs) such as trace pharmaceuticals, and other trace organics. Reverse osmosis (RO) and ion exchange (IX) technologies can remove these compounds, but are extremely expensive to install and operate. Conversely, APTwater’s HiPOx® technology provides a patented cost-effective, waste-free, chemical oxidation process that effectively destroys EDCs and other trace compounds to enable safe, sustainable and environmentally friendly water reuse. As validation of this assessment, our HiPOx technology is first and only ozone-based process technology approved for unrestricted water reuse under the California Department of Public Health’s stringent Title 22 reuse guidelines.

APTwater’s HiPOx systems can destroy a broad range of organic contaminants by applying powerful Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) chemistry in our patented reactor design. Our hydroxyl radical chemistry efficiently oxidizes most trace contaminants, pharmaceuticals, and EDCs while simultaneously destroying pathogens and viruses. More importantly, our HiPOx chemical oxidation process destroys contaminants to harmless intermediaries or dissolved CO2 and H2O without producing a waste stream. Moreover, HiPOx systems are unaffected by changes in feed water color / turbidity / transmissivity that can severely impact the performance of conventional ultraviolet (UV) oxidation processes. Finally, HiPOx systems are compact, modular, and easy to install into new or existing processes and allow for simple, automatic, and low-maintenance operation.
