HiPOx APPLICATIONS & CASE STUDIES

Applied currently has dozens of systems operating at industrial sites, military installations, service stations, water utility well fields, and energy transportation facilities and has performed well over 100 HiPOx demonstrations.

An overview of HiPOx applications and case studies is provided below.

Drinking Water Applications

HiPOx technology has successfully treated hundreds and even thousands of gallons per minute at impacted drinking water supply wells. A major advantage of Applied’s HiPOx advanced oxidation reactor design is the ability to meet very low maximum contaminant levels while limiting bromate formation. This lead HiPOx to become the first advanced oxidation system ever approved and permitted by the California Department of Health Services to completely eliminate MTBE contamination in a drinking water supply well.

Remediation Sites

HiPOx technology is suitable for shallow groundwater remediation systems that operate at flow rates as low as 5 gallons per minute or as high as 300 gallons per minute or more, and with contaminant levels that may be either in the low parts per billion, or several hundred parts per million. In addition, unlike conventional technologies and UV-ozone systems, HiPOx is not affected by high turbidity or high TDS water streams.

Industrial Wastewater / Water Reuse Applications

HiPOx is an effective treatment for industrial wastewaters and water reuse applications and can perform multiple treatment objectives such as taste/odor/color removal, disinfection, and destruction of VOCs, microcontaminants or endocrine disruptors, without forming disinfection byproducts. Click here to see how HiPOx compares with competing technologies for these types of applications.

Process Water Applications

Applied is just beginning to explore the many opportunities that exist in the process water market. Field and laboratory experience shows that the HiPOx technology is well suited for a wide variety of treatment applications. Please contact us if you have an application you would like to explore.

Conjunctive Applications

HiPOx can be easily integrated into a treatment train with other technologies to meet site-specific treatment needs at the lowest possible cost. Example treatment trains operating today include HiPOx carbon, air stripping HiPOx carbon, and air stripping HiPOx bioreactor.

Whether it’s a stand-alone or conjunctive application, HiPOx can be configured to meet your site-specific needs. In some instances, a HiPOx unit may provide the total treatment solution to a given problem. In other instances, particularly where a variety of contaminants are present, a conjunctive solution involving HiPOx and other technologies such as carbon adsorption, air stripping or bioreactors may be the most cost effective solution.
