High Efficiency Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) developed for the challenges of municipal and industrial water treatment.

APTwater's HiPOx process offers extremely efficient and cost-effective disinfection in addition to treatment for color, taste, and odor issues in municipal drinking water at no extra cost. HiPOx systems can be installed at various points in the water treatment process train to maximize effectiveness depending on unit process performance and project-specific needs. HiPOx is a standardized and fully-automated water treatment system that can be easily incorporated into new or existing plant designs.

Studies have shown that HiPOx treatment can offer total lifetime cost savings of 20%-90% versus competing activated carbon or other conventional process alternatives. For color, taste & odor problems, HiPOx systems clearly deliver value from improved process efficiency, lower energy use, and the elimination of process waste.

Although Taste and Odor problems can arise from a variety of compounds, these issues are most often a direct result of geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (MIB) presence in the water supply. Both geosmin and MIB compounds are produced by blue-green algae commonly found in surface water supplies and are also prone to significant color problems created by the presence of natural tannic acids. These problems are especially difficult for many facilities because conventional water treatment processes do little to destroy or remove these compounds to meet standards. Historically, taste and odor problems have been addressed within the treatment process using large quantities of activated carbon which requires frequent and costly replacement, regeneration, or waste disposal.

Process Overview

The HiPOx process is the key enabling technology for water treatment. The HiPOx process destroys contaminants via an oxidation chain reaction with ozone, peroxide, or the hydroxyl radical (OH·), the most powerful oxidant available for water treatment. By employing a unique compact reactor design, the HiPOx system maximizes oxidant efficiency and significantly reduces net operating costs.

Applications

HiPOx is a versatile tertiary disinfection and oxidation technology that can be used for both municipal drinking water treatment and water reuse. APTwater has systems available for both multi-MGD City-Scale projects, and as "turn-key" solutions ideal for decentralized plants looking to minimize piping and pumping infrastructure costs.

Value Proposition

The HiPOx process enables sustainable water treatment and enhances downstream bio-filtration, UV, and RO treatment steps through high-performance oxidative disinfection and EDC destruction. By maximizing the efficiency of renewable inputs and eliminating waste residuals, the HiPOx process delivers "Clean Water. No Waste®".
